How to Play Powerball Instant Millionaire

Select Game:

  Crazy Eights
Contestant Selection
  • Prior to beginning the show, each contestant will be seated in his/her state's position in the contestants' gallery.
  • The randomizer will select 3 of the contestants, by state, who will participate in the first game.
  • Contestants will find out that they have been selected via a graphic presentation and audio announcement.
  • Upon being selected, a contestant will leave the gallery and come up to the stage.
  • These three contestants will play a game called "Crazy Eights."
1. To start the game, the 4 of spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds are removed from the electronic deck of cards and placed facing up on the Money Line.
2. The computer randomly selects and places 18 cards below the Money Line. The 18 cards are drawn from a group containing the Ace, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of each suit. While the 18 cards selected are random, the group must contain the 8 of each suit. In this game, the Ace is worth 1.
3. Each contestant is allowed three strikes. The winner is the last contestant left in the game or the contestant who uncovers the fourth 8, whichever occurs first.
4. Each contestant starts the game with $1,000.
5. When called on to play, a contestant announces which box he or she wants revealed.
6. A successful play is when a contestant reveals a card that increases its suit on the Money Line. If successful, the contestant has $100 added to the $1,000 that they started the game with and has the option of playing again or passing control of the board to the next contestant in turn.
7. If a contestant uncovers a card that does not increase its suit, that contestant incurs a strike and control of the board automatically passes to the next contestant in turn.
8. When a contestant accumulates three strikes, he or she is out of the game.
9. Whether successful or not, the card revealed is placed on the Money Line, covering the card in that suit. For example, suppose the first card of the game were the 7 of clubs.
The 7 would be a successful pick and cover the 4 of clubs.
The next play would be against the 7 of clubs and the three 4s still on the Money Line. If the next card revealed were a 3 of diamonds, the contestant would receive a strike. The next play would be against the 3 of diamonds and the three 4s still on the Money Line.
10. Anytime a contestant finds an 8, the highest card in any suit, that card goes on the Money Line and is never covered, effectively causing all future cards in that suit to be strikes.
11. When a contestant gains control of the board, he or she must make at least one play before passing control to the next contestant in turn.
12. The winner, whether they are the last contestant left in the game or the contestant who finds the fourth 8, receives whatever value is spelled out by the four cards on the Money Line when the game ends. This amount replaces what the contestant has accumulated throughout the game. The winner also qualifies to play in the semi-final game. For example, if the below were the Money Line at the end of the game, the contestant would win $4,846. Should the winner win additional monies during the show, these monies will be added to the amount won in Crazy 8s.
13. The two other contestants win whatever amount they accumulated throughout the game. This amount will always be at least $1,000. They are also done playing on the show.

High Rollers
Contestant Selection
  • Prior to the second game, contestants may be asked to move seats so that there are no empty spaces between them.
  • Once again, the randomizer will select 3 contestants by state. This shall be done in the same manner as before the first game except the group of available contestants shall consist of all contestants except for the three chosen to play Game 1.
  • The three selected contestants will play a game called "High Rollers."
1. To start the game, the computer randomly hides 20 pairs of dice behind 20 numbered spaces. The 20 hidden pairs represent the following values: 1-"2," 1-"3," 1-"4," 1-"5," 1-"6," 1-"8," 1-"9," 1-"10," 1-"11," 1-"12" and 10-"7s."
2. Each contestant starts with $1,000 and is allowed three strikes.
3. Above the game board, $1,000 is set on the Money Line.
4. A successful play is when a contestant reveals any set of dice with a value other than "7."
5. When successful, the contestant has $100 added to the $1,000 he or she started the game with and has the option of playing again or passing control of the board to the next contestant in turn.
6. When a contestant gains control of the board, he or she must make at least one play before passing control to the next contestant in turn.
7. Upon a successful pick, $1,000 is added to the Money Line and the value of the revealed dice is added to the last two digits on the Money Line. For example, suppose the first set of dice uncovered totaled eight. The Money Line would go from $1,000 to $2,008.
8. An unsuccessful play occurs when a contestant reveals dice totaling "7."
9. The unsuccessful contestant receives a strike and control of the board automatically passes to the next contestant in turn.
10. When a contestant gains control of the board, he or she must make at least one play before passing control to the next contestant in turn. When a contestant makes three unsuccessful plays, he or she is out of the game.
11. The winner is the last contestant left in the game or the contestant who uncovers dice whose value pushes the last two digits on the Money Line to a total of 40 or more, whichever comes first.
12. The winner, whether the last contestant left in the game, or the contestant who reveals dice that pushes the total of the last two digits to 40 or more, receives whatever value is spelled out on the Money Line at that time. This amount replaces any cash accumulated by that contestant during the game. The winner also qualifies to play in the semi-final game. Should the winner win additional monies during the show, these monies will be added to the amount won in High Rollers.
13. The two other contestants win whatever amount they have accumulated throughout the game. This amount will always be at least $1,000. They are also done playing on the show.

Quick Pick
1. Prior to this game, contestants may be reseated so that there are no empty seats between them.
2. The randomizer will select an order of the contestants, by state, for participation in the game. The group of available contestants shall consist of all contestants except for the six chosen to play either Game 1 or Game 2.
3. Going in this random draw order, each contestant will pick one opaque cylinder from the group of cylinders.
4. One of the cylinders will contain a red POWERBALL. The others contain a white ball.
5. On a cue from the host, the contestants will simultaneously open their cylinders.
6. The contestant holding a cylinder containing the red POWERBALL is the winner and qualifies to play in the semi-final game. The player immediately comes up on stage and occupies the appropriate player podium.
7. The contestant holding the red POWERBALL wins $1,000. The contestant will retain this amount of money regardless of what happens throughout the remainder of the show.
8. The contestants holding white balls will win $1,000. They are now out of the game.

Semi-Final Game
Contestant Selection
  • The winners from Game One (Crazy Eights), Game Two (High Rollers) and Game Three (Quick Pick) will compete in the semi-final game.
1. To start the semi-final game, utilizing a computerized random generator, five POWERBALLS are randomly hidden behind 13 numbered boxes on an electronic board.
2. Three contestants play the game.
3. Each contestant is allowed 3 strikes.
4. When called on to play, a contestant will call a box by number. The element hidden behind that box will be revealed.
5. A successful play is where the contestant's selection reveals one of the hidden POWERBALLS.
6. After a successful turn, that contestant has the option of playing again or passing control to the next contestant in turn.
7. On an unsuccessful play, when a POWERBALL is not found, the contestant incurs a strike.
8. Three strikes and a contestant is out of the game.
9. After an unsuccessful turn, control of the board goes to the next contestant in turn.
10. When a contestant gains control of the board, he or she must make at least one play before passing control to the next contestant in turn. When a contestant makes three unsuccessful plays, he or she is out of the game.
11. The winner of the Semi-Final Game is the contestant who finds the fifth hidden POWERBALL or is the last contestant left in the game after the other two opponents have struck out.
12. The winner receives $1,000 to compete with in, and moves on to play, the bonus game - Instant Millionaire. This $1,000 is carried over and used in the bonus game.
13. The other two contestants retain the amounts won in their preliminary game, and are done playing the game.

Instant Millionaire
Contestant Selection
  • The winner of the semi-final game will play the Bonus Game.
1. To start the game, the computer will randomly hide 7 dollar ($) signs and 2 "Xs" behind the letters in the word P-O-W-E-R-B-A-L-L.
2. When play commences, the Bonus Game contestant will select a letter and the symbol behind that letter will be revealed.
3. The contestant starts the game with the $1,000 carried over from the semi-final game as the beginning possible prize amount.
4. For each dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount will be doubled; so:
For the first dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $2,000.
For the second dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $4,000.
For the third dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $8,000.
For the fourth dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $16,000.
For the fifth dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $32,000.
For the sixth dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $64,000.
For the seventh dollar sign revealed by the contestant, the possible prize amount rises to $128,000 or $1,000,000 depending on whether the contestant has revealed an X prior to that point of the Bonus Game play:
  • If the contestant uncovers all 7 dollar signs without uncovering an "X," the contestant wins $1,000,000.
  • If the contestant uncovers an "X" before revealing the seventh dollar sign, the million dollar prize is out of play.
  • If, after uncovering a single "X", the player then proceeds to uncover the seventh dollar sign, the final prize amount rises to $128,000, the contestant wins that amount and the Bonus Game is over.
5. If a contestant uncovers an "X" before revealing the seventh dollar sign, the contestant has the following options:
  1. Quit playing, win whatever the possible prize amount has risen to at that point of the Bonus Game, and the Bonus Game is over.
  2. Continue playing, hoping to find another dollar sign and increasing the value of the possible prize.
6. If a contestant elects to continue playing at any point after uncovering the first "X", and uncovers another dollar sign, the possible prize amount rises to the next level, and the contestant may elect to claim that prize or continue playing.
7. If a contestant elects to continue playing at any point after uncovering the first "X", and uncovers the second "X," the contestant's possible prize amount to that point is cut in half, the contestant wins that halved amount, and the Bonus Game is over.
8. The contestant may continue playing under these conditions for as long as he or she is successful. The contestant may opt to stop after any successful selection and win the prize value accumulated to that point.
9. If a contestant uncovers the two "Xs" on their first two picks, the contestant is awarded $100,000 and the game is over.
10. The winnings from this game are added to the contestant's winnings from the preliminary game.
