Jerome Cody of Red Wing is Minnesota's newest Hot Lotto millionaire. The quick-pick ticket that Cody purchased for the Nov. 21, 2007 Hot Lotto drawing matched all six numbers drawn to win the jackpot worth $7.1 million.
Cody arrived at the Lottery's headquarters in Roseville Wednesday afternoon with his wife, Janice, to claim the prize. He selected the $4.4 million cash option. After tax withholding, Cody will receive $3,025,867.
Cody purchased his ticket at Freedom Valu Center , located at 727 Main St. in Red Wing. He said that he stops at the store twice a week to fill his pickup with gasoline for his work commute to Smead Manufacturing in Hastings. On Thanksgiving morning, he returned to the store and asked the clerk to scan his ticket. Cody said that a message printed indicating that the prize was too large to redeem at the store. The store clerk then printed the winning numbers and realized Cody was the jackpot winner. “She was very gracious and kind to me,” said Cody.
Erickson Oil, the parent company of Freedom Valu Centers, will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the jackpot winning ticket. According to information provided by Erickson Oil, the store that sold the winning ticket was the first location opened by the Erickson family in 1950.
