Green Bay Man Claims $29.1 Million Powerball Jackpot!
( Madison )—As an over-the-road truck driver for almost 25 years Steve Peot of Green Bay never imagined he would amass more money than miles. So count him as one very surprised Powerball jackpot winner.
“This really is unbelievable,” Peot said.
Late this afternoon in Madison , Peot, 45, presented the Wisconsin Lottery with the only winning ticket from the September 5 th $29.1 million Powerball drawing. He purchased his winner at the De Pere Superstore, 1501 Main Ave. in De Pere.
“I don't play that often,” he told Wisconsin Lottery staff. “Sometimes when the jackpots are really up there.”
So what prompted him to go for a $5 quick pick ticket for last Wednesday's comparatively small $29.1 million?
“I don't know,” he admitted. “It was just on a whim.”
Peot chose the jackpot's cash option lump sum payment of $13.7 million. After taxes he will receive approximately $9,350,000, which will be wired to his bank account within ten business days. Peot says he's not sure what he's going to do with the money.
“Just keep on keepin' on, I guess.”
Peot is married with two teenage children and another child on the way. He says he intends to continue living in Green Bay . He declined to take part in a news conference.
For selling the winning Powerball ticket the De Pere Superstore earns $100,000.
Wisconsin has now won 14 Powerball jackpots since the game was introduced in 1992. Peot's jackpot is the second won in Wisconsin in 2007, and the third won here in the past 13 months.
