MISSOURI - Billy Eades buys six Powerball tickets each week – three for Wednesday night’s drawing and three for the Saturday night drawing. On June 2, the $12-a-week practice led the retiree to a $50,000 payout when he matched four out of five white-ball numbers and the Powerball number drawn. Eades purchased the winning ticket at QuikTrip, 1010 Armour Road, in North Kansas City.
“I went to a different QuikTrip and just had them check my numbers, and the God-durn machine went off,” he shared, laughing about the moment he realized what his ticket was worth. “I sort of froze, and I looked around, and everybody’s looking at me. Yeah, I was shocked.”
It was a surreal moment, but Eades had no problem deciding what to do with his winnings.
“The instant I got it, I said, ‘I’m going to pay my house off,’ and that’s what I’m going to do.”
The winning numbers drawn on June 2 were 23, 25, 37, 44 and 64, and the Powerball number was 7.
