With help from a winning Powerball ticket, a frustrating night that started with blown sparkplugs was quickly transformed into a plan to purchase a new vehicle and pay off debt. For Kerry Buchanan of St. Louis, the plan took shape after winning $50,000 for matching four of the white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number, drawn in the March 21 drawing.
“I drive an older van, and the sparkplugs blew out,” Buchanan explained of the evening’s progression. “We fixed the van, and I was waiting on it, and it was getting late. I looked at my daughter and said, ‘You know what? We’ve been playing the same numbers for a long time; we have to go get Lottery tickets.’
“So we went ahead and walked to QT. We got the tickets, and … here you go!” he laughed, while claiming his prize at the Missouri Lottery’s St. Louis office the next day.
“We need a new van, so we’re going to do that, and then the rest will go to pay bills,” he shared. “So we get a chance to be clean, you know what I mean? It’s going to feel good.”
Future plans also include playing his favorite numbers again.
“I’ll continue to play the same numbers and wait for the big one,” he teased.
Buchanan bought his winning ticket at QuikTrip, 8583 St. Charles Rock Road, in St. John. The winning numbers drawn on March 21 were 3, 4, 18, 29 and 61, and the Powerball number was 25.
