All prizes are set cash amounts, except the Grand Prize.
In California, prize payout amounts are pari-mutuel and determined by sales and the number of winners.
How TALL
is $40 Million?
A Powerball jackpot of $40 million may not seem like much, but ask yourself this – is $40 million really a small amount of money? Is the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. a small building?
If you were to stack $100 bills, take a look at the heights the money would reach at each estimated jackpot amount.
Did you know your odds of winning a prize are the same in every Powerball drawing?
You have a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the advertised jackpot is $40 million.
You still have a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the advertised jackpot is $1 billion.
Even if there are more tickets sold in a particular drawing, your odds of winning a prize are the same.

Jackpot winners can either select their prize as an annuity or a lump-sum payment.
If the annuity option is selected, the winner is guaranteed to receive 30 graduated payments over 29 years.
The annual payments increase by 5% until the 30th and final payment.
The 30 payments added up equal the value of the annuity.
