A single ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in the Saturday night Powerball® drawing to win an estimated jackpot worth $23.2 million ($17.3 million cash value). This was the second time the Powerball jackpot has been hit this week – a $731.1 million Powerball jackpot was won by a single ticket in Maryland in the January 20 drawing.
The lucky ticket holder in Saturday’s drawing will have the choice between an estimated annuity of $23.2 million, paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, or a lump sum payment of $17.3 million. Both prize options are before taxes.
The winning numbers in the Saturday, January 23 drawing were white balls 05, 08, 17, 27, 28, plus Powerball 14, and Power Play multiplier 3X.
There were a lot of big winners in the Saturday night drawing: 35 tickets matched all five white balls but missed matching the red Powerball in to win a $1 million prize. The $1 million-winning tickets were sold in Arizona (2), California (7), Florida (4), Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York (11), Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.
Eight other tickets matched all five white balls and doubled the prize to $2 million because the tickets included the Power Play® option for an additional $1. The $2 million-winning tickets were sold in Florida (2), Georgia, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Puerto Rico.
For the next drawing on Wednesday, Jan. 27, the Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million; $15 million cash value. The 10X multiplier will be in play as part of the Power Play® option since the advertised jackpot is under $150 million.
