Tennessee – A quick visit to a Harriman convenience store became the trip of a lifetime for a Knox County man who claimed a $50 million Powerball jackpot prize today at the Tennessee Lottery's Nashville headquarters.
Michael Duncan told officials he was not a regular Lottery player, and had not originally planned to play that day. But when he stopped by Rocky Top Market, 1811 Roane Street, to quench his thirst, he saw a Tennessee Lottery sign and decided he would give it a shot. He purchased a single ticket, selected numbers based on family members' ages … and the rest is history.
The ticket matched all six Powerball numbers drawn on Saturday, March 21, 2015, to win the $50 million jackpot. This is the third largest prize in Tennessee Lottery history and the second Powerball jackpot win in Tennessee during the past year.
Mr. Duncan chose to receive the lump sum cash payment of $33,557,046.98 rather than the annuitized amount of $50 million. The retailer location will receive $25,000 for selling the winning jackpot ticket, in addition to a bright public spotlight.
